40 days of blogging
I've decided to give up something for Lent. A little thought quickly told me what it should be. My mornings. I guard them very carefully, but that doesn't necessarily mean I do much with them. For the next 40 days I will start the day with a time of journaling and reflection. If I miss a day, be sure to give me a hard time. :)
I really enjoy Lent. It reminds me of who God is and who I am comparatively. He is the creator; I am the created. He is infinite; I am dust. He is perfect; I am flawed. It would be, in some respects, a depressing thought if not for Jesus.
Lent also reminds me of Jesus. It reminds me of his 40 days of fasting in the wilderness. It reminds me of his love and service for others. It reminds me of his sacrifice for all of us. Jesus was fully human, while still also fully God. In his life and death he gave us an example and a hope.
Despite our dust beginnings, and our physical body's fate to return to dust, we now have a future. Jesus taught us how to live in today's vapor of an existence for the hope of our eternal future. He sacrificed himself to give us that hope. To delete our sin. To help us become perfect as he was.
I pray that through Lent I will refocus on these truths and be thankful for them anew. I hope that thankfulness will become love and love will become action. Jesus did not teach, model, or live a life of empty words. He lived a life of action. He served, loved, and did marvelous things for the glory of his Father. I hope I will do the same.
