love and such
Yesterday was Valentine's day of course. Which I see as a rather lame holiday, but of course, we are pressured into acknowledging it. It's sad if your wife is the only one at work who doesn't get anything! Unfortunately that kinda happened because of shipping time. But she'll get it eventually! :)
The heart of valentines day is nice. A special day to acknowledge love and the one(s) that make it the most real in your life. Though of course, like most holidays, if we stripped it of consumerism and really thought about it -- we would probably put the focus on Jesus. He was the perfect example of love and taught us how to love others. Service.
I really see the truth of that in my relationship with Carla. One of the most powerful ways we can show love is by serving the other. Unfortunately that means that Carla is probably doing a better job then me!!! She's constantly doing things she doesn't necessarily enjoy, for my sake.
I don't know if I entirely count chores. She does those more for her sake and tends to hate me a bit as she's doing them. ;) Though it does make me love and appreciate her even more. Little thoughtful things can suddenly mean a lot when you realize the other's motivation for doing them.
It's not Valentine's day anymore, but the love doesn't have to stop. Perhaps today we can serve people to show them we care. Get them a refill if you are eating with them. Bring someone a special little treat. Do the chore that everyone else is avoiding. There's a million possibilities, simply try to put others before yourself.
